Welcome to the gathering at Smára Church
Smárakirkja has a warm and informal atmosphere where guests should feel welcome from day one.
Welcome to the gathering at Smára Church
When you first arrive at Smárakirkja, you will be greeted by friendly people at the entrance. Attendants will help you find a seat, answer questions, and explain what is coming up in the service.
The meeting lasts approximately 1.5 hours and is structured with you in mind to encounter God and people in a living and real way. There is space here for both those who are used to church life and those who are taking their first steps.
How the meeting is conducted
The meeting is usually divided into several parts. First is a worship service, about 40 minutes, with contemporary Christian music where we sing together and direct our hearts to God.
After the praise, there is a short discussion with an explanation of where the donations go, followed by a sermon where the Bible is explained in a clear and practical way for everyday life. At the end of the meeting, intercessory prayer is offered for all who request it, whether it is for gratitude, prayer needs, or guidance.
For those of you who don't speak Icelandic
The services are interpreted into English for non-Icelandic speakers. You will receive a small device and headphones at the entrance and can listen to live interpretation throughout the service. This helps you follow along with the praise, sermon, and announcements without missing the content.
Good gift and good company
Special attention is given to first-time visitors. At the end of the gathering, each new guest receives a small gift from the church as a sign that you are truly welcomed and have a home here.
Before the meeting begins, there is a pleasant fellowship over coffee and snacks where people chat and get to know each other. After the meeting, a hot meal is offered to all who attend, free of charge, which provides a great opportunity to sit a little longer, get to know the people and feel part of the church family.
You are especially welcome.
You don't need to know "how to act" in church or have the right words. You can simply come as you are, with your questions, hopes, and expectations. We would love to welcome you and help you find your place in the congregation and community.
If you want, you can let us know in advance that you are coming for the first time, but it is not necessary at all – you are welcome at any time.
